3 out of 5 stars This does NOT have side pillows   April 20, 2008

Overall this is good seat. It is light weight and seems pretty sturdy. However, the turbobooster comes in many models, of which it is difficult to tell the subtle differences. I bought this one because the description says it comes with the Gracopedic luxury foam on the seat and padded side pillows. But contrary to the item description, this does not come with the side pillows.
Babies R Us offers similar models with both the upgraded seat and side pillows--they are called Abbey or Roanoke. This is the only model that comes with the neck pillow.

5 out of 5 stars Consumer Reports Gave it a 82 the Highest Review!   December 28, 2006

I am very happy with this purchase. I am a Britax Mommy and have been since my son was born but just so happened to check Consumer Reports before I purchased his "Big Boy" seat and was glad I did.

They gave this seat the following review: Over all score 82 (the highest of any booster seat) Graco TurboBooster 8493 TurboBooster SafeSeat (Step 3) 8496 $50, TurboBooster SafeSeat (Step 3) 8497 $50,TurboBooster SafeSeat (Step 3) 8498 $50,TurboBooster SafeSeat (Step 3) 8673 $60,TurboBooster SafeSeat (Step 3) 8674 $70

This seat is actually several models but this one that I purchased allows for the back of the seat to detach when they are older and no longer need the back. It also comes with a neck pillow. Unfortunately I did not get this in my box and simply called GRACO and they sent one right out to me. Excellent customer service!

My son is not yet 3 years old but exceeds the mandatory weight and height limits to use the seat. He is not a large child but fits perfectly in it. I have posted his photo in the seat so that you can judge for yourself on the sizing.

From one Britax mother to another don't spend the extra money on the name. Britax did not even make the Consumer Reports list. I am pleased and I am also very concerned with my son's safety that is why I always purchased Britax. This time GRACO came out tops!

As far as my son being comfortable he is able to be free in his seat and still be safe. He can reach his toys and he can also nap comfortably. He dies not complain at all now that we have the new seat. I personally made a wise decision. The seat also fits great in my Xterra and both cup holders on the seat can be pulled out with east for snacks and drinks. I am however worried about cleaning them when they get dirty. It looks as if it will be a tedious job.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect!   February 15, 2007

This seat is so easy to put together, place in the vehicle and strap a child in to, it is definitely worth every penny. Safety ratings on this seat are great. It is also convenient that, when the child is old enough to move on to a booster without a backrest, the backrest is removable.
Our daughter loves the cupholders for snacks and drinks.
She also loves that she can climb in and out of the seat by herself, which is good for her self-confidence as she grows up.
We use this seat between 2 cars and it is easily removed and replaced with a simple slide of the seat belt. The seat is even color-coded to show where the belt should be placed across the shoulder and the waist.
Definitely a great product.

4 out of 5 stars Nice comfy seat - keeps seatbelt in place   December 18, 2006

I own this seat for my son who is age 6. It is the law in my state that children must in a booster or car seat until age 8. The seat material is high quality and the cushioning is very comfotable. The headrest is perfect for long trips since my son can fall asleep without an annoying crick in his neck. The price is decent too.

The only issue I have with this seat is the cupholders. If you have a regular sedan and want to fit others in your car, the cupholders aren't very usable. Additionally, the cupholders don't slide out very well when the child is sitting in the seat. Personally, I leave the cupholders pushed in. I have another carseat for a young infant in my sedan and must fit my 10-year old in the back seat.

I wish carseat and booster seat makers would instead make a mesh bag pocket hang right off the botton front for kid toys and such. Furthermore, with booster seats in general, I think they are very impractical for families who need to fit 3 kids across the backseat. My son has a very hard time buckling his seat belt because he must reach to the side where space is at a premium.

I would love a forward-facing booster seat with a 5-point harness that would lock into the LATCH loops for the older child. Not only is a 5-point seat harness safer but it is much easier for a child to buckle themselves instead of reaching around to the side.

As far as the options available for a child who has outgrown a convertible seat but is too small for a regular seat belt, this is a nice option.

4 out of 5 stars Graco Does It Again   August 10, 2007

When my daughter started to get too big for her baby seat in the car, Graco's Turbo Booster was one of the first products my wife and I looked at. What we found was that this booster was one of the easiest to use. The loops for the seat belt are convenient. The back is easily removed when the child gets older. The cup holders made our daughter feel like a "big girl." It's an excellent seat overall. The only complaint I had with this seat (as well as most of all the others we looked at) was the lack of cushioning. Other than that, I highly recommend this seat.

One other thing that I should mention is that this particular booster fits perfectly in airline seats. If your child requires a booster seat on the plane, I definitely recommend this one for ease of use and its compactness. Some claim that airlines do not allow boosters on the plane. However, in February of 2006, Continental airlines had no problem with us using the seat on the plane. Perhaps the regulations have changed since then. With the way airlines act and react to happenings in the world, it wouldn't surprise me.
